beach

With the summer heat reaching record highs, finding refreshingly cool water and a pleasantly soft breeze is exactly what the people of San Diego County need. Thankfully, San Diego is blessed with a few of California’s most beautiful coastlines and beaches that serve as the perfect summer getaway. Amongst the many amazing beaches, here are a few standout destinations that both San Diego locals and tourists can enjoy!

1. Oceanside City Beach - Oceanside, CA

beach

Being the northernmost San Diego coastal city, Oceanside is home to a large coastline and many iconic landmarks including the 1,954-foot-long pier and the Top Gun House. All of these attractions and neighboring resorts are within walking distance of Oceanside’s City Beach. This “not-so-hidden” gem can be found just off the Pacific Coast Highway. This beach is also very family-friendly and inclusive- lacking major hills and stair-only entrances. With a good balance of surfing, shopping, and sunbathing, Oceanside is a must-visit for San Diego locals and curious tourists.

2. Frazee State Beach - Carlsbad, CA

beach

Attracting people of all residences with its striking sunsets and bustling environment, Frazee State Beach should be on the list of all San Diego visitors. Being near Carlsbad Village allows visitors to enjoy the vast coastline and some of Carlsbad’s best eateries within walking distance. Despite this beach reaching heavy crowds near the holidays, the consistently perfect waves and conveniently located entertainment atmosphere make the visit worthwhile!

3. Tamarack Beach - Carlsbad, CA

beach

Just south of Frazee State Beach, Tamarack Beach offers a relaxed vibe coupled with a welcoming family atmosphere. Additionally, this beach attracts various athletes from competitive surfers to casual runners with its long, unobstructed stretch of sand. Despite being further removed from the city environment of Carlsbad, the limitless space for beach activities like playing volleyball or socializing with friends while getting a sun-kissed summer glow. Tamarack also appeals to campers with its free street parking along Carlsbad Boulevard, which allows direct access to the Pacific Ocean. Overall, Tamarack is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to savor San Diego’s gorgeous summer weather.

4. Windansea Beach - La Jolla, CA

beach

Unique from the previous three beach cities, La Jolla’s coastline encompasses an array of coastal environments including tide pools and coves. Being most famous for the neighboring La Jolla Cove, Windansea is a slight distance from the noisy sea lions that inhabit the cove. However, it’s still known for its Hawaii-like wave breaks, vintage palm surf shack, and rocky plateaus for sunbathing. Nearing the pinnacle of city life in Downtown San Diego, Windansea is close in distance yet very far in its atmosphere- offering a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle. This classic strip of coastline exposes the elegant charm of San Diego while also appealing to locals and tourists alike.
