Last Wednesday, the Vista Unified School District hosted its 3rd annual Art Under the Stars exhibition, an art show that presents their students' work. Celebrating all mediums and forms of art, from sculptures to painting to photography, students had the ability to show off their artistic ability and represent their personal values. With a variety of different awards and honors to be given, many students received recognition for their hard work throughout the course of the school year.
When walking into the venue, hosted at the Vista Civil Gallery, attendees were immediately greeted with the warm aura of the flowing artistic skill of these young artists. With specialty catering from Handels and Chick-fil-A, families of the artists and locals were happily invited to attend the opening ceremony of the art show. Every corner of the gallery was filled with student pieces with clear efforts of work put into them. With this being such an esteemed event, there was a profound message conveyed by the Mayor admiring the efforts of all art teachers across the district and the student’s work. Students who created works considered most ardent to the jurors received Vista merchandise and gift certificates and were announced as winners.
My artwork, titled “Dreamer,” which was also shown at the exhibition, represented the innocence of childhood and wanting to achieve your dreams. I really took inspiration from my own experiences and relationships with my brother to create this piece. When coming up with the idea for my piece, I considered the impact of growing up and the effect it has had on my childhood, this also became a central topic for my potential future portfolio. When reflecting on my artistic process, I am quite proud of myself because it took a lot of time and hard work, and the outcome paid off more than I could ever imagine. Furthermore, I feel very fortunate for this opportunity that the Vista Unified School District has given aspiring artists like myself, I loved showing off my art to my community and representing my school.
Many other young artists also received recognition for their pieces, ranging from third to first place awards for both high and middle schools, as well as larger awards such as the City Council Award and Best In Show. Below Teens Talk San Diego and myself want to exhibit some of the student’s admirable and fascinating work.
Art Under Stars was an exciting event that brought the Vista community together to celebrate its students and the closing school year. Like everyone else, we can’t wait to see what artwork the aspiring artists will present next year!
